Emergency Locksmith
Locked out, snapped key, jammed door — a vetted engineer on the road within minutes, 24 hours a day.
Emergency Locksmith →uPVC doors do not usually fail at the cylinder — they fail at the multipoint mechanism buried in the door edge. The symptoms are always the same: the handle goes floppy or rock solid, the hooks stop throwing, and the door either will not lock or will not open.
You do not need a new door. In almost every case the gearbox or a strip of the mechanism is replaced, the door is realigned, and it works better than it has in years.
Either the handle lifts with no resistance and nothing happens, or the handle will not lift at all. Both point at the centre case. If the door is currently shut and locked with a sheared gearbox, it is an emergency job — the door has to be opened before the mechanism can be replaced.
There are dozens of mechanism brands on London doors — Fuhr, Winkhaus, GU, Yale, Millenco, Maco, Avocet, Lockmaster — and the backset, PZ spacing and centres all have to match. Our engineers measure on site and carry the common patterns, so most doors are fixed on the first visit rather than left boarded while a part is ordered.
A gearbox that shears usually shears because the door dropped and the user has been forcing the handle for months. Replacing the mechanism without correcting hinge alignment and keep positions just books the same repair again next year. We adjust as part of the job.
Nearly always a sheared multipoint gearbox. The handle is no longer connected to the mechanism that throws the hooks. It is a common, repairable fault and does not mean you need a new door.
Yes, that is an emergency call-out. We open the door without destroying it wherever possible, then replace the failed mechanism and realign the door in the same visit.
Very rarely. Unless the panel or frame itself is damaged, replacing the mechanism restores full security and leaves you with the door you already have.
